Repossession Stories: Man Bites Repo Agent
A couple of vehicle repossession stories have made their respective local news lately.
The first is about a consumer biting a repo man attempting to take his vehicle:
A 50-year-old Lopatcong Township man bit and pulled a weapon on a tow truck driver repossessing the man’s vehicle, township police report.
Joe Lopez Jr., of the 100 block of Powderhorn Drive, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, simple assault and criminal mischief and was housed in Warren County jail awaiting his first appearance in county court, which was scheduled for Monday, police said.
This would almost certainly be considered a breach of the peace and therefore an improper repossession.
The second story, while not much of a legal bearing, talks about a repo agent taking a wrong turn and ending up in Canada:
En route to Buffalo with the vehicle, Worsley told police he took a wrong turn and ended up on the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, headed into Canada.
Turning back, he was stopped by Customs and Border Protection agents for not having license plates. A secondary inspection then turned up a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle, according to reports. Worsley was charged with four unspecified infractions, police said.
